10 Things I Hate About You Blu-ray Review

Long before Heath Ledger played the dark character of The Joker in his final role (for which he won Academy Award Best Supporting Actor, 2008) before his premature death, he portrayed several characters in romantic comedy movies like 10 Things I Hate About You (his on-screen debut in the US), which releases on Blu-ray for the first time January 5th from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.

The 10th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray of 10 Things I Hate About You includes Never-Before-Seen Heath Ledger Screen Test Footage along with the film that stars Ledger, Julia Stiles (the Bourne Trilogy), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (500 Days of Summer) and Gabrielle Union (Cadillac Records). An inspired update of William Shakespeare’s classic comedy “The Taming of the Shrew,” the film’s entertaining tale of rocky romance between a pair of unconventional teens is an enduring favorite as fresh and funny today as it was a decade ago.

Ledger and Stiles were brilliant together as a pair of uniquely rebellious teens who initially find each other loathesome, but ultimately are attracted by a common desire to stay outside the lines.  Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Gabrielle Union add to a nice ensemble cast, which tells two parallel stories of challenged relationships on the verge.

Among the best high school movies and best teen movies of all time, 10 Things I Hate About You is a romantic comedy that offers something for everyone. You have the romance for the more sentimental movie watchers and the conventional teen comedy bits for the broader audience.  This makes for a nice young couple’s Friday movie night get together.
