May 19th, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment and Pixar Animation teamed up for the Blu-ray release of A Bug’s Life, an original 1998 movie release that was destined to be experienced in the high definition technology capable only with Blu-ray.

Flik and his tiny ant friends are in trouble after he messed up the food supply that Hopper and his grasshopper friends expected to find upon their visit. After Hopper gives the ant colony a few minutes to produce double the amount of food for them, Flik volunteers to venture out to find help when the grasshoppers return.

On his journey, Flik finds a brave band of warriors. Unfortunately, it turns out they are not warriors after all, they are a bumbling troupe of circus bugs. Realizing time is running out, the ants must come up with a plan to save themselves when Hopper and friends return.

A Bug’s Life is a wonderful Pixar adventure, and definitely a movie that grows leaps and bounds with the graphics capabilities of Blu-ray hi-def. The already amplified ants and other bugs are even more visually appealing. A Bug’s Life is a fun family movie, though some small children might have trouble with the more scary scenes, even with the G-rating. Still, a very nice movie with an adventurous spirit.
