Disclosure Policy
This policy is valid from April 29, 2009
This site is a media site with a balance of personal opinion reviews and news items, written and edited mostly by the domain and website owner. Occasionally, talented, and identified freelance writers are used to provide content in the form of product reviews utilizing sample products. For questions about this blog, please contact Neil at movieroomreviews@hotmail.com.
This site infrequently accepts forms of cash advertising, sponsorship, paid insertions or other forms of compensation. Paid advertisements, either direct or through third party entities, will appear in sections of the site set aside for advertiser messages. Any sponsored items or posts will be clearly identified as “sponsored” and product reviews and endorsements will never be influenced by the provision of product samples (no resale value) or compensation. Reviews or information on products, sites, and services, or paid posts that are sponsored for the specific purpose of enhancing consumer awareness, should be viewed as more general content about the features and benefits of the site or product, as opposed to strong endorsements or criticisms. We will never accept sponsorship in exchange for a commitment to endorse a product or service we do not believe in. We will simply refuse sponsorship from any company that we do not believe in, and do not feel is ethical or useful for our readers.
Any product review that is not labeled as “sponsored” or “paid for” contains completely authentic and honest review opinions, including endorsements and/or criticisms, regardless of provision of product samples. Final product DVD and Blu-ray movies for review are occasionally provided to us in lieu of a preview or screener, for the soul purpose of completing a review. They are not intended for resale (which is often stated by the provider) and as such, have no retail or market value for the reviewer. Providers of product for the purpose of review should be aware that our reviews are intended to inform our readers first and foremost. Product reviews are designed to offer fair and honest feedback to serve the interests of both the company and consumers.
This site abides by word of mouth marketing standards and ethical online journalism guidelines. We believe in honesty of relationship, opinion and identity. Any paid compensation (rare) or sample product received will never intentionally influence the endorsement of products within posts made in this site. Most product reviews are made using product purchased or rented by the reviewer or screener/preview samples with no resale value. Occasionally final products are submitted (in lieu of screeners) for consideration with no expressed ‘guarantee’ of a review and especially with no implied or expressed guarantee of a positive review. Based on mutual understanding, these products are not for resale and only for review purposes, thus have no inherent resale value. Any content, advertising space or post will be clearly identified as paid or “sponsored” content if cash compensation, or any non-product sample exchange of value has been received for use in generating content. Sponsored content is intended to provide consumer awareness for the sponsor, as opposed to the site’s typical opinion-based product review. While we will refuse sponsors that don’t match our personal tastes and ethics standards, we will share sponsor messages, our experience with features; with disclosure, and allow readers to discern whether the message is useful.
The owner of this site and its writers are infrequently compensated to provide opinion on products, services, websites and various other topics. Even though the owner of this site and contributors sometimes (usually preview, non-resale samples) receive final product samples and may infrequently receive sponsorship compensation for posts or advertisements, any opinions, findings, beliefs, or experiences expressed on those topics or products are always honest, and no agreement has been expressed or implied with the sponsor regarding favorable reviews in exchange for paid compensation or product provision. This site has routinely turned down offers for compensation that come with a stipulation of non-disclosure. The views and opinions expressed on this site are purely the writer’s own. Any product claim, statistic, quote or other representation about a product or service should be verified with the manufacturer, provider or party in question, especially if a review or claim is out of date.
Regarding potential conflicts of interest, it is this site’s intention to avoid, as much as possible, any content which might present a real or perceived conflict of interest for the site owner or contributors. In cooperation with growing expectations for openness, we would like to disclose that our site serves as an affiliate of several online ad agencies and companies for the purpose of selling and promoting products or generating click throughs for revenue generation. Most movie reviews include a banner or link to Amazon products. While we are paid a modest percentage upon the sale of a product from these ads, the banners are placed as a courtesy with every movie reviewed and there is generally no connection between the provider of product samples and the retail affiliate (eg. Amazon). The placement of the product ad and potential for sale has no bearing whatsoever on our movie reviews or opinions (see our grades for yourself). Occasionally, movie news items come forth that we feel are relevant and of interest to our readers. Sometimes, companies are covered that we have an affiliate relationship with. This is always disclosed at the bottom of the movie news item or feature. If a reader ever feels like this site has failed to properly disclose a conflict of interest, contact us and we’ll give your concern immediate consideration.
