Weekend Preview! What's New at the Box Office?

Renowned director M. Night Shyamalan brings a new thriller to theaters on Friday, May 31. Father and son actors Will and Jaden Smith star as a fictional father and son. One thousand years ago, devastating events left the planet Earth uninhabitable. Ever resilient, the human race sought out a new home among the stars. Now, Cypher Raige and his young son, Kitai, have accidentally crash-landed on the abandoned and dangerous planet. With his father gravely injured, Kitai knows it up to him to brave the unfamiliar territory and bring back help. "After Earth" has a PG-13 rating for disturbing images and some sci-fi action violence.

"Now You See Me" is a new crime thriller from director Louis Leterrier. A group of illusionists have a Las Vegas act that is unlike any other. In the middle of their magic tricks, these conmen pull off something very serious: Robin Hood heists, redistributing money from big banks to the audience members. The law quickly catches on and starts to investigate. However, these illusionists have tricks up their sleeves that defy all logic. "Now You See Me" has a PG-13 rating for mature content, action, and language.

"The East" is a taut new mystery from director Zal Batmanglij. When a young woman who works for a secretive private intelligence firm has to take on the toughest job of her life, she expects to run into some trouble. What she does not expect is that she will fall in love. However, the handsome and magnetic leader of an anarchist group starts to win her heart, complicating her political inclinations and her professional life. The dramatic action movie has a PG-13 rating for partial nudity, mature content, disturbing images, thematic elements, and violence.

In "The Kings of Summer," a young teenager named Joe decides to break free from his father's domineering household. He gathers two eccentric friends and, together, the three adolescents head out into the woods. Away from the prying eyes and the constant rules of the adults who dominate their lives, the teenage boys learn important lessons about freedom and responsibility. The R rating is due to teen drinking and language. Jordan Vogt-Roberts directs.

Continuing Films

"Fast & Furious 6" sees Vin Diesel reprise his role as Dom, who is a wanted man in the United States for his illegal dealings. Though Dom and his partner, Brian, are wealthy and successful, they still long to return home. It might require more shady dealings to erase their past. "Fast & Furious 6" has a PG-13 rating for intense action, violence, and mayhem, as well as mature content and language.

"The Hangover Part III" reunites the cast of the first two comedies. Before his friends can seek help for Alan, they end up in the middle of a complicated plot that will bring them face to face with Mr. Chow. The Wolfpack has to stick together if they want to make it. The uproarious film has an R rating for pervasive language, violence, drug content, and graphic nudity. Director Todd Phillips takes the helm once again.

In "Star Trek Into Darkness," Benedict Cumberbatch stars as a villain with a complex history. Captain Kirk has to venture into unfriendly territory and take huge risks, all so he can guarantee the safety of the planet Earth and of his beloved crew. The sacrifices may prove to be too much. J.J. Abrams directs the movie, which has a PG-13 rating for intense sci-fi action and violence.

"Epic" tells the story of worlds colliding. One is the human world, and the other is a miniature world of forest warriors. When a human girl ends up shrunken down and transported into the forest world, she learns that she must accept her destiny if both worlds are to thrive. "Epic" has a PG rating for brief rude language, mild action, and scary images.

In "Iron Man 3," the unthinkable has happened. The cocky and arrogant Tony Stark has lost the spark that makes him such a charismatic superhero. With a terrifying new villain on the loose, Iron Man does not have much time to spare when it comes to getting his mojo back and saving the day. Shane Black directs. The film features a PG-13 rating for suggestive content and intense sci-fi action violence.

"The Great Gatsby" . Baz Luhrmann directs the epic interpretation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel. Daisy Buchanan is a beautiful and aloof heartbreaker. She may be married to Tom Buchanan, a philanderer, but she has the heart of one of the wealthiest and most influential men in Long Island. If Daisy is not careful, though, her love affair could be aiming right at disaster and heartbreak. "The Great Gatsby" has a PG-13 rating for partying, smoking, mature content, violent images, and some language.
