Zac Efron premieres Charlie St. Cloud
Zac Efron was among the stars at the world premiere of his latest movie 'Charlie St. Cloud' in Los Angeles last night (20.06.10).
Zac, 22, was accompanied by girlfriend and 'High School Musical' co-star Vanessa Hudgens, 21, on the red carpet at Regency Village Theatre in Hollywood.
In the movie, Zac plays the titular character, a teenager mourning the loss of his little brother in a car accident, who falls in love with a schoolmate.
He finds himself torn between a promise he made to his dead sibling and moving on with the girl he loves.
Discussing his reasons for working on the film - an adaptation of Ben Sherwood novel 'The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud' - he said: "It's just something different. I just knew what I had to do personally and that was slow down and really do something that was a challenge."
Efron's on-screen brother Charlie Tahan, co -star Amanda Crewe and director Burr Steers also joined the actor on the red carpet.
Zac recently revealed that he hopes the deep subject matter of the film could be the one to bring him respect from the industry.
He explained: "When I read 'Charlie St. Cloud', rather than me saying this would be fun, selfishly, I said, 'Wow, this is emotional and it is really going to be meaningful.'
"It's the first of its kind for this generation. I thought that, on an emotional level, everyone at some point has to go through loss. It's pretty uplifting when you realize that you can move on and live your life and that person will still be with you, deep down somewhere inside."
