Columbia Pictures are still working on a sequel to 'Salt'.

The production company are currently in negotiations with 'Seven Years in Tibet' screenwriter Becky Johnston to pen the script for the follow-up to the 2010 spy film starring Angelina Jolie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

After the first film grossed a total of $293.5 million worldwide, Columbia hired original writer Kurt Wimmer to work on the new script, but after reports that Angelina, 37, was not impressed enough with his work, Becky was approached to take on the project.

Original producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Sunil Perkash are set to reprise their roles for the second film.

The action flick saw Angelina star as CIA officer Evelyn Salt, who discovers she is a Russian sleeper sell agent on a mission to assassinate the president of the United States, and the actress previously expressed interest in reprising her role.

She said: ''I'd love to do a sequel. You never know if you're going to get the chance, if audiences are going to love it. But particularly with this character, I think there is so much yet to explore in her life with her - with her family, with coming to terms with who she is in the end, because of the way it's set up, she could be anybody.

''She could be in any country, she could speak any language, and so we have a lot of opportunities. As an actress, and somebody who loves to travel, it would be nice to be able to explore the world with her.''
