Christopher Mintz-Plasse says his new animated film 'ParaNorman' proves being ''weird wins''.

The 23-year-old actor - who voices school bully Alvin in Focus Features' horror comedy - hopes to inspire kids by showing that it's OK to be misunderstood like the film's main character Norman, who fights to save his hometown from a zombie invasion.

Christopher told entertainment website Bloody Disgusting: ''I love that there's two aspects to this. There's me bullying Norman, and then there's the townspeople bullying the zombies which I think is a nice twist.

''But I hope that young kids walk away understanding the tagline, 'weird wins'. Not being normal is okay and in the end, everything is going to be fine.''

The 'Kick-Ass' star also revealed that although directors Chris Butler and Sam Fell had a specific idea in mind for the film, they wanted actors who could improvise and put their own stamp on the animated characters.

Christopher reflected: ''Chris has wanted to make this movie for the past 10 years, so when he actually wrote the script he was passionate about it but also wanted to bring in some actors who could improvise a bit and had the talent to bring the characters to life.

''I brought in the character, I said the lines my way and I brought the character to life and they loved it.''

'ParaNorman' also features the voices of Casey Affleck and Anna Kendrick and will be released in September.
