Dave Bautista joins "Guardians of the Galaxy"
Dave Bautista has been cast in 'Guardians of the Galaxy'.
The former WWE wrestler will star in Marvel's highly anticipated superhero flick, playing the towering Drax the Destroyer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Bautista has closed his deal to play the key Guardians member - a human who is resurrected as a powerful warrior after his family is slaughtered by villain Thanos, the evil being introduced at the end of last year's 'The Avengers' movie - beating stiff competition from three other actors.
'Game of Thrones' actor Jason Momoa was the hotly tipped favourite to land the part, while Isaiah Mustafa and Patrick Wade were also considered for the role before producers settled on the former WWE champion.
The wrestling star is the second cast member to be locked in for a role in the sci-fi action film, joining 'Zero Dark Thirty' actor Chris Pratt, who will play Guardians leader Peter Quill aka Star-Lord, an astronaut who returns from space as a galactic warrior.
Three more lead roles have yet to be cast including female Guardian member, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon and Groot.
Bautista recently starred in martial arts flick 'The Man with the Iron Fists' and will next be seen battling Vin Diesel in 'Riddick'.
'Guardians of the Galaxy' will be directed by James Gunn and is tentatively scheduled for release in 2014.
