Ridley Scott's "The Counselor" debuted in fourth place, earning $8 million. Based on an original screenplay by Cormac McCarthy, the film features a lawyer who is eager to make extra cash. A leader of a Somali pirate group and the commanding officer of a container ship meet under strange circumstances. The pirates take the ship hostage, leading to a face-off that may have negative consequences for both the pirates and the crew. It is up to Captain Phillips to defuse the situation. "Captain Phillips" has a PG-13 rating for sequences of menace, substance abuse, and violence that includes bloody images.
"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2" has brought in more than $100 million in total. This past weekend, the animated movie earned $6,100,000. Flint and friends head back to Swallow Falls to retrieve Flint's invention. What they find is a wilderness overrun with foodimals, from shrimpanzees to fruit cockatiels. In addition to trying desperately to fit in, Carrie also worries about the strange powers she seems to possess. If her classmates push her a little too far, her life could come crashing down around her. The film's R rating is due to bloody violence, language, disturbing images, and some mature content.
"Escape Plan" earned $4,340,000. The thriller has earned over $17 million overall. When Ray Breslin unexpectedly ends up in the world's most secret and impenetrable prison, he knows that he is the only man who can even hope to find a way to freedom. Ray is a security analyst, well-versed in the secrets of the most exclusive, high security prisons. Violence and language throughout contribute to an R rating.

"Monsters University" has a G rating.
"R.I.P.D." stars Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds as partners who fight crime in the afterlife. Nick discovers that his days as a police officer are not over. After his death, he joins up with the gruff and grumpy Roy to protect humanity from supernatural threats. At the same time, Nick hopes to bring his killer to justice. The movie's PG-13 rating is due to violence, sci-fi action, sensuality, and language that includes mature references.
In "Byzantium," a mysterious mother and daughter have something to hide. When the pair seeks refuge in a coastal town, the residents are fascinated and frightened by them.
