Daniel Craig set to star in Monuments Men

October 30th, 2012

Daniel Craig is in talks to star in George Clooney's next movie 'The Monuments Men'.

The James Bond star has been approached about a role in the film - which George is directing - which follows the story of a group of men and women who chased down the European art stolen by the Nazis during World War II.

It is based on the book 'The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History' by Robert M. Edsel.

It is not yet known which part Daniel is in discussions about.

If the 'Skyfall' actor does join the project he will be working alongside an impressive cast which includes Cate Blanchett - who plays Rose Valland, an art historian and member of the French resistance - and Paul Giamatti, who is believed to be portraying Lincoln Kirstein, who co-founded the New York City ballet with George Balanchine.

Other names in the frame include Bill Murray, Jean Dujardin, John Goodman and Hugh Bonneville.

As well as directing the film, George will also star in it, playing George Stout, a US Army officer and leading art conservationist, who repatriated tens of thousands of pieces of art from the Nazis.

He is also producing and writing the screenplay with Grant Heslov.

Shooting is scheduled to begin in Germany, Austria, France and England in March 2013.
