Jeremy Renner wants to "Kill The Messenger"
Jeremy Renner is set to star in 'Kill The Messenger'.
'The Bourne Legacy' actor and his production company The Combine are lining up the rights to the film so he can play the lead in the tragic true-life drama about reporter Gary Webb.
The Pulitzer-winning journalist committed suicide in 2004 after exposing a CIA scandal led to the end of his career.
Gary wrote a series of articles in the San Jose Mercury News revealing how the CIA allowed Nicaragua's Contra rebels to smuggle cocaine into the States in the 1980s and how the money from the drug sales was then used to fund their war against the Nicaraguan government.
His three-part expose hit newsstands in 1996 and resulted in a long smear campaign which ultimately caused him to take his own life.
Jeremy is also keen to co-produce the film, which Michael Cuesta will helm and Peter Landesman has written the script for.
The project will be introduced at the Berlinale festival this month and cameras are expected to begin rolling this summer.
Jeremy can now be seen opposite Gemma Arteton in fairytale-inspired thriller 'Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters' and will join forces with 'Silver Linings Playbook' director David O'Russell on his new movie.
