George Clooney thinks his Golden Globe win celebrates "three years of hard work".

The 50-year-old star picked up the Best Actor accolade award show in Los Angeles last night (15.01.12) - and was grateful to win because he was a "big fan" of movies.

George told "This is three years of hard work and they're years of what matters to me. It feels nice to have this acknowledgment. I'm a big fan of film, it's what I do and love."

The 'Ides of March' director, was particularly pleased to beat pal Brad Pitt, nominated for his role in 'Moneyball', although he laughed off the idea of any rivalry between the two.

He said: "We're friends. There are no wagers or trash talk. We just slap each other on the back and wish each other well."

George was also nominated in the Best Director and Best Screenplay categories for political drama 'The Ides of March', but failed to win either.
