"Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is poised to be one of the biggest blockbusters of 2014. Based on the Marvel character of the same name, Captain America is a former soldier and S.H.I.E.L.D. member who seeks justice for another member who is targeted by a mysterious group who, if not stopped, could enact horrors of global proportions. In addition to being an arm of the wildly successful Avengers franchise and the sequel to "Captain America: The First Avenger," the movie also has a cast that reads as the who's who of young Hollywood as well as a few veterans who still pack a punch with audiences.

Chris Evans: Captain America

Chris Evans' name is practically synonymous with superheroes when it comes to film. In addition to starring in the first installment of the Captain America franchise, he also starred in "The Avengers" as well as "The Fantastic Four." Although audiences are familiar with his turns in superhero movies, they might know that Evans also provided the voice for his character in the "Captain America: Super Soldier" video game.

Scarlett Johansson: Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow

Known for her work in such critically acclaimed films as "Her," "Hitchcock," "He's Just Not that Into You," "Girl with the Pearl Earring" and "Lost in Translation," Johansson is firmly seeded as one of the top young actresses in Hollywood. Her ability to deliver punch lines as well as tear-inducing dramatic dialogue has earned her a reputation as a chameleon who can play virtually any role. In "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," her acting skills are put to the test in the role of the Black Widow. Naturally, she stands up to the challenge.

Sebastian Stan: Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier

Although he is no stranger to movies with memorable roles in "Black Swan" and "Rachel Getting Married," television fans are sure to recognize Barnes from his many small screen appearances. Most recently, Barnes took on the role of the Mad Hatter in the very popular "Once upon a Time" series, which is based on popular fairy tale and storybook characters. In addition to "Once upon a Time," he has also appeared on "Political Animals," "Gossip Girls," and "Kings."

Dominic Cooper: Howard Stark

Dominic Cooper is currently cruising on the big screen alongside Aaron Paul in "Need for Speed." Although he might not be a household name, the following years promise to be breakout ones for Cooper. In addition to major box office headliners "Need for Speed" and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" in 2014, he is also featured in "Dracula Untold," which is being released later in 2014, and "Warcraft," which is due out 2016.

Emily VanCamp: Emily Carter/Agent 13

Emily VanCamp has spent several years getting revenge on the small screen in the successful television show of the same name. She has definitely proven that she is not an onscreen nemesis to be messed with, and she gets another chance to do the same in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." Aside from "Revenge," VanCamp is also known for her roles on "Brothers and Sisters" and "Everwood."

Samuel L. Jackson: Nick Fury

As a veteran actor and established professional, Samuel L. Jackson has a resume that extends for pages. "Pulp Fiction," "Django Unchained," "The Incredibles," "Iron Man," "Inglorious Bastards," and the Star Wars franchise. When it comes to Samuel L. Jackson, he definitely has the Midas touch in making any project with which he becomes involved turn to Hollywood gold. Even at the age of 65, he shows no sign of slowing down with at least 10 new projects on the horizon.

Robert Redford: Alexander Pierce

Like co-star Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Redford's filmography is long enough to fill a novel. Even more mind blowing is the thought that Redford has been a key player in Hollywood since long before some of his young co-stars were even born. Although he still puts in the occasional on-screen appearance, Redford does most of his work behind the scenes in the role of director and producer, and he has a handful of other projects due in 2014.

With a cast as deep as "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" has, it is impossible to imagine the film to be anything more than a thrilling ride. Given the fact that many of the characters in the movie have spawned spinoffs of their own, the movie is sure to appeal to a wide audience who, even without superpowers, is sure to identify with the heroes and villains. Most of all, audiences are likely to find the movie's stellar cast to be unbelievably believable and thoroughly entertaining.
