Most Anticipated Movie Sequels This Year
This year is a great year for movie sequels. Superhero fans will have more than enough sequels in which to revel. Fantasy fans will also get their movie fix, and even kids have a fun sequel to anticipate.
Hitting theaters on April 4, one of the most anticipated sequels of the year was "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." The first movie found audiences rooting for the little guy, Steve Rogers played by Chris Evans, before he became the medical experiment that spawned the heroic Captain America. Although he defeated the Hydra of World War II, he ended up cryogenically frozen for more than 50 years. When he was released from his icy prison, he found himself in the modern world in the midst of a war on terror. "The Winter Soldier" takes up where the first movie left off with Captain America as a soldier for the United States and a member of SHIELD. However, he finds out that Hydra may not be as dead as everybody assumed, even hiding in plain sight.
As long as superheroes are taking over the year, do not forget about "The Amazing Spider-Man 2." In the first movie fans were introduced to the intrepid Peter Parker, young superhero. In the sequel, Spider-Man, reprised by Andrew Garfield, is beset by his own personal doubts and, even worse, Oscorp. In this movie he must battle Electro, The Rhino and Green Goblin.
Then there is the new X-Men movie, "X-Men: Days of Future Past." In this new movie, the past and future generations combine in an effort to save the world. Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman, is sent back into the past to prevent a horrific sequence of events that spells disaster for all of humanity. Fans get a glimpse at both the old and young Charles Xavier, played by Patrick Steward and James McAvoy respectively, and the old and young Magneto, played by Ian McKellan and Michael Fassbender respectively. Of course, there is an appearance by Mystique, Storm, Rogue, Beast and many other favorite mutants.
Yet another film in the Transformer's franchise is ready to hit box offices, titled "Transformers: Age of Extinction." This movie is missing star Shia LaBeouf, but Mark Wahlberg takes front stage and runs with it. In the movie, Wahlberg plays Cade Yeager, a struggling inventor, auto mechanic and single father of daughter Tessa Yeager, played by Nicola Peltz. Although the details of the storyline are currently under wraps, apparently Yeager learns a valuable secret about the Autobots that could change everything.
"Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" is the sequel to "Rise of the Planet of the Apes." In the first movie, Caesar, played by Andy Serkis, and his medically advanced ape allies escaped from the sanctuary and humans became exposed to a deadly flu. In the riveting sequel, 10 years have passed and while the human population has decreased drastically because of disease, the ape empire has dawned into a super power. Meanwhile, Caesar is now the leader of the community, torn between the loyalty he once felt for his human handler and doing what is best for his people.
The new addition to the dystopian movie series, "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1," is much anticipated. This sequel is the first of the two-movie conclusion to the series. In the first two movies, heroine Katniss Everdeen survives not one but two experiences in the arena. At the end of the last movie, Katniss was lifted out of the arena by a rebel group and Peeta was captured by the Capitol. In the new movie, Katniss becomes part of the rebellion and seeks to bring down the Capitol by inspiring rebellion throughout all the Districts.
As far as anticipated conclusions are concerned, the last hobbit movie falls under this category. "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" starts where the last movie left off, with Smaug laying waste to the nearby Lake-town after being burgled by Bilbo. In this last movie, the dragon is defeated but the dwarves, elves and humans all seek to claim the treasure of the mountain. It is only when an army of goblins and Wargs approaches that the dwarves, elves and humans band together.
As long as dragons are making an appearance in the most anticipated sequels this year, "How to Train Your Dragon 2" needs to make the list. In this movie Hiccup is five years older and inseparable from Toothless. The two discover a secret cave that is harboring many secrets.
These are just a few of the most popular sequels to look forward to this year. There is a little something for everybody here.
