Carriers DVD Review

Published on December 12, 2009 by Admin/Neil   ·   No Comments

Carriers is a December 8th (moved up from an initial December 29th release date) DVD release from Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment and Directors Alex and David Pastor.  It is a horror thriller movie about a time when a deadly zombie-like plague has taken over and there are only a few survivors.

A small group, Danny (Lou Taylor Pucci), Brian (Star Trek’s Chris Pine), Bobby (Piper Perabo), and Kate (“Brothers and Sisters” Emily VanCamp) are traveling together when they run into a stranded car.  A father (Christopher Meloni) is trying to get some gas for his car (all the fuel stations are run down) to get his daughter to a doctor in hope of a cure for the plague.  The group makes the decision to transport them and risks potential infection of everyone involved.

Carriers is a movie that has a bit of a 28 Days feel, but the story is as much about the relationships of the characters and the challenging decisions they must make in the course of their journey, some of which include kill or be killed choices.   There are not a lot of intense moments or jumpy sequences, but the plot and the story are well-developed for a film in the zombie horror genre.

If you want a reason to watch Carriers, Stephen King has given the film his endorsement, suggesting it is one of the better movies few people have seen.  You can imagine with King’s seal of approval that the story offers more substance within than closure in the end.  The characters are strongly played by a nice cast of fresh, young stars.  Perabo, Pine, VanCamp and Pucci work well together in roles of diverging emotional involvement.
