London-born filmmaker Christopher Nolan is credited with reviving the struggling Batman franchise back in 2005. After taking on directorial and screenwriting duties for Batman Begins, Nolan was able to re-invigorate the franchise and create a new wave of interest that remains effective up until this day.
The one Batman film that alone propelled Christopher Nolan and the entire franchise to another level was 2008's The Dark Knight. The modern action/thriller starring the late Heath Ledger as the brilliant and villainous Joker opposite Christian Bale as Batman broke box office records worldwide in addition to setting a new precedent for comic book adaptations as well as films of the same or similar genre.
Christopher Nolan has set himself apart from other directors by showing a unique talent for creating films that contain concepts based on abstract breaks with conventional behavior and idealism.
