The Top Three Must-See Movies for Summer 2012

-- Summer movies are the much-anticipated hits of the year. They come at a time when the networks are playing reruns, and everyone is looking for a reason to get out of the house. A good summer movie must thus do a little more than entertain. It must deliver a story with enough depth and great acting to take the audience away from the heat of the day or night. During the summer season, the movies are a place for dates, family outings with the children or a temporary escape from responsibility. Contrary to belief, some of the best summer movies are not action movies. A good summer flick can be a drama or even a movie for the kids. The top three movies for summer 2012 include one action flick, a film for the kids and a comedy for the perfect date night.

"The Dark Knight Rises"

The only serial film on the list, "Dark Knight Rises" is a summer action movie that has plenty of explosions and fight scenes for any action movie fan. It also has a bit of drama reminiscent of the other two movies in the Dark Knight franchise. "Dark Knight Rises" is the third installment in the saga staring Christian Bale as Batman. It marks the introduction of Cat Woman, played by Anne Hathaway. Eight years after the "Dark Knight" movie events occurred, Batman is wanted by The Gotham City Police after the death of Harvey Dent. He returns to the city to save it from the clutches of Cat Woman and Bane, both notorious villains from the "Batman" comic book series. In this last installment to the Dark Knight series, it is rumored that the brooding hero will be broken. If the story heeds the comic storyline any at all, Batman's depression will not last long. "Dark Knight Rises" promises a very active plot and great characters for the perfect summer movie night.

Pixar has a pick that is sure to impress parents and enthrall kids everywhere this summer. "Brave" is the story of Princess Merida who would not fit in amongst the Disney princess girls. She is tough, loves the outdoors and wants more than anything to live life like her brothers. It is understandable. In the movie trailers, the king teaches the Merida her history lesson while wrestling hard enough to turn the room upside-down. Merida is also an expert archer. However, the girl is expected to pick a husband and settle in for a life of tending the royal household. Merida soon finds the fate of the entire kingdom on her shoulders, forcing her to dig deep for bravery that no one knew she had. This 3D Pixar film is action-packed, but it promises many side jokes and a story that parents can enjoy along with the kids. "Brave" is a new tail in a year of fairytale remakes that will capture the hearts and attention of the entire family.

"Seeking a Friend for the End of the World"

The third movie on the list of the best movies for summer 2012 is a comedy meant for that first date. On the first summer date, you don't quite know what to see. An action movie may be too much, killing the romance. A romantic comedy may be too presumptuous and cheesy. However, a snarky comedy starring Steve Carell and Keira Knightley is light, quirky and interesting enough for any date to enjoy. The movie takes place at a time when the Earth is in imminent danger from a meteor hurtling toward it. Steve Carell plays a man who wants to see his high school sweetheart before he dies. Keira Knightley is a girl who has had many recent life changes and decides to come along for the ride. A road trip ensues that brings the two to a potential romantic conclusion, despite the end of the world. They have a lot in common, and if the world isn't about to end, would a romance be possible?

"Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" combines elements of past great summer movies:
- The end of the world
- A road trip
- A mismatched comedy team

The result is a film that promises plenty of laughs and a little drama to keep things from getting too awkward. After all, the world is in the process of ending throughout the entire film.

No matter what your motivations are for taking in a movie this summer, do not miss these three top summer movie picks. People will be talking about these movies long after leaving the theater, and you don't want to miss out on the film or the conversation afterward.
