Christian Bale stars in this historical drama set during the Second Sino-Japanese War in 1937 Nanjing, China. Finding sanctuary in a Church compound, a group of escapees risk their lives as they struggle to survive the plight and persecution brought on by the violent invasion of the city. For his part, Bale portrays an American priest who helps a number of Chinese people escape certain death. Based on the novel "The 13 Women of Nanjing" by Geling Yan.
