Geoffrey Rush is an Australian actor and film producer who most recently starred in the 2010 movie "The King's Speech". For his role of Australian speech therapist Lionel Logue Rush received Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations as well as a British Independent Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.

He began his acting career with the Queensland Theatre Company (QTC) in 1971. Over the next four years he appeared in 17 different stage productions put on by the company, including Wrong Side of the Moon, Juno and the Paycock, and Hamlet on Ice. During the 1980s Rush became a vital member of the State Theatre Company of South Australia and showed an equally strong range in such productions as "Revenger's Tragedy," "A Midsummer Night's Dream," "Mother Courage...and Her Children," and "Blood Wedding." Also in 1981 a then-30-year-old Geoffrey made his big screen debut in the Australian picture Hookwink.

In 1996 Geoffrey Rush became the first Australian-born actor to win an Oscar, taking home the honor for his role in the movie Shine.

Starting in 1998, his American film career took off, the Australian actor securing roles in Les Misérables, Elizabeth, and Shakespeare in Love. Then, between 2001 and 2003, he had nine films released, including the super popular adventure film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. As Captain Hector Barbossa, Rush would would appear in the next three sequels, including Dead Man's Chest (2006), At World's End (2007), and On Stranger Tides (2011).
