Although he just wants to help his son, Jack, McClane soon finds himself embroiled in a last-ditch attempt to prevent a nuclear showdown. It turns out that Jack knows more than he lets on. John Moore directs "A Good Day to Die Hard," which has an R rating for violence and language.
Just in time for Valentine's Day, "Beautiful Creatures" is a new romantic fantasy from director Richard LaGravenese. Like any new girl in a small Southern town, Lena has to struggle to win the trust of her peers. Unlike most teens, though, Lena has some unusual powers to hide. She forms a bond with Ethan, but even his love cannot save Lena from the tough decisions she must face. The PG-13 rating is due to scary images, violence, and some mature content.
"Safe Haven" opens in theaters on Thursday, February 14. Based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks, the romantic drama follows Katie, a young woman who arrives in town with the hopes of starting over. She slowly allows herself to lower the walls around her heart, even striking up a romance with a handsome local widower. However, Katie cannot completely outrun her dark past. The PG-13 rating is due to violence and mature content, as well as thematic material that involves threatening behavior.
"Escape from Planet Earth" opens in theaters on Friday, February 15. The animated flick features the voice talents of Brendan Fraser and Rob Corddry. The Supernova brothers could not be less alike. While Scorch is a boisterous superhero on his home planet, Baab, Gary is more of an introverted brainiac. When Scorch ends up stranded on a hostile planet called Earth, it is up to Gary to save the day. The PG rating is due to action and mild rude humor.
Seth Gordon directs "Identity Thief," a comedy that proves just how deceiving looks can be. At first glance, Sandy Patterson just seems like an ordinary middle-aged lady, out having fun and living large. However, she is keeping a big secret. In reality, she's not Sandy Patterson at all. When the real Sandy tracks down the identity thief, she will go to great lengths to dodge capture. The R rating is due to mature content and language.
Jonathan Levine directs "Warm Bodies," a supernatural romantic comedy with an unexpected twist. R may be a zombie, but it turns out that he may have a brain and a heart after all. When he falls madly in love with a human named Julie, there are a few obstacles that keep the lovebirds apart. For instance, R has a secret that could tear the two apart for good. "Warm Bodies" is rated PG-13 for language and zombie violence.
"Silver Linings Playbook" is a love story about two lost souls who happen to make a lucky connection. Pat is trying to win back his wife after a traumatic incident involving her infidelity. Tiffany wants to move beyond her damaged past. Working together, the two might be able to help each other out, but neither one is fully prepared for the consequences of their blossoming friendship. David O. Russell's Oscar-nominated comedic drama has an R rating for language, mature content, and nudity.
"Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters" shows what happened after the plucky siblings defeated the evil witch and fled the gingerbread house. Although Hansel is diabetic from his candy diet, he and his sister Gretel are feared bounty hunters who know how to deal with witches. However, when the two learn a surprising secret about their past, it could threaten everything they have worked for. Nudity, mature content, language, gore, and violence contribute to the film's R rating. Tommy Wirkola directs.
"Mama" is an eerie and suspenseful horror movie from director AndrŽs Muschietti. Annabel and Lucas do not have any children of their own, but they agree to look after Lucas's two young nieces. To make matters more complicated, the nieces have been surviving on their own after a tragic accident. It soon becomes clear that the girls have brought something along with them. "Mama" has a PG-13 rating for disturbing images, thematic elements, terror, and violence.
"Zero Dark Thirty" is Kathryn Bigelow's latest political drama, expected to win a few awards at the upcoming Oscar ceremony. The controversial and provocative film follows the decade-long manhunt for a renowned terrorist. Maya is the young CIA officer who has to remain patient and deal with professional frustrations as the search drags on. When Navy SEALs capture the terrorist, tensions come to a head. "Zero Dark Thirty" has an R rating for language and disturbing images.
