High School Musical 3: Senior Year DVD Review

Those lovable, wholesome, song-loving teens are back with High School Musical 3: Senior Year from Walt Disney Home Entertainment on DVD February 17th! This time it is their senior year and they are full of thoughts about their futures. Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) has big plans to go to Stanford. Troy (Zac Efron) and Chad (Corbin Bleu) are planning to play basketball at the U of A, and then there’s the added surprise that Julliard is looking at four of the students for a scholarship. Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) is up to her usual antics of trying to be center of attention and brings her brother Ryan (Lucas Grabeel) along for the ride.


I was quite skeptical about watching this movie because happy teenagers breaking into corny songs every five minutes is not usually my idea of a good time. And I don’t recall my high school being anything like East High. However, I found myself becoming hooked! Sure, some of the songs were more annoying than pleasant, but the story and the other songs were actually good and I found myself thinking that maybe I should watch the original- because it is usually the best. A little thing that irked me was that the background music to the musical numbers was much louder than the singing and it was a little off putting.

Although somewhat hokey and probably a little more clean and wholesome than a lot of kids these days are used to, I think High School Musical 3 does a good job of providing quality entertainment that can be enjoyed by every age group. And any movie that can wipe out any prejudice I had formed before watching it gets high praise in my book!
