Igor DVD Review

In Igor, a January 20th DVD release from Fox Home Entertainment, the title character is a hunchback who is quite intelligent and not happy to be a mad scientist’s slave. “Igors” are people that are born with hunchbacks. They are then sent to Igor school where they must learn to talk with a lisp and do their masters’ bidding.
This Igor (voiced by John Cusack) wanted to invent things on his own. The king of Malaria (voiced by Jay Leno) has created a weather machine that keeps the sun away and has made people believe that in order to survive all must be evil. Igor wants to create an evil monster and win the yearly science fair. Instead he creates Eva who can not seem to be evil no matter what Igor does. He is assisted by his created friend sidekicks and is hindered by Dr. Schadenfreude and his girlfriend Jaclyn.
Having never heard of this movie, I was not sure what to expect. I was completely surprised by all the big names that lent their voices to the movie. And once I began watching it, I was even more pleasantly surprised that it was good! I found myself getting very into the movie and had to pause it to leave the room as I didn’t want to miss anything. The animation is similar to Nightmare Before Christmas (Directed by Tim Burton) and is very dark.
As an adult, I found the movie to be humorous, intelligent and fun. I’m not sure how well it will go over with young children, though. They tend to be attracted to more vibrant colors and silly voices. But, since I’m not a child and this movie had all the markers I look for in something to entertain me, I thought it was great!
