It's Almost the Weekend! What Will You See?
Scott Cooper's "Out of the Furnace" arrives in theaters on Friday, December 6. For brothers Russell and Rodney Baze, the opportunities to better themselves are few and far between. Russell puts in long hours at the steel mill, while Rodney is just returning from Iraq. Needing money, Rodney makes a series of dangerous decisions, creating a world of trouble. "Inside Lleweyn Davis" opens in limited theaters on December 6, before its general release later in the month. Directing team Joel and Ethan Coen take on the 1960s music scene. During a wintry week in Greenwich Village, a lost and confused young musician tries to find his place in the world, but music may be his only escape. The R rating is due to language that includes some mature references.
In "The Last Days on Mars," a group of astronauts heads to Mars on a research mission. The voyage takes a dark turn when crew members begin to fall prey to a strange, deadly force. Before they can fight back against the threat, the astronauts will first have to figure out its very nature. The movie's PG-13 rating is due to brief strong language. Ruairi Robinson directs the sci-fi film.
"Swerve" explores what happens when unexpected chances arise. After Colin comes across the scene of an accident, he has to make some swift decisions. The results of his choices lead Colin deeper and deeper into a rabbit hole of danger, mysteries, and hostile forces. If Colin wants to survive, he will have to be quick on his feet. The R rating is due to violence, language, mature content, and nudity. Craig Lahiff directs.
In "Expecting," two best friends come to a surprising decision. Lizzie dearly wants a baby to round out her life, but it doesn't seem to be in the cards. Meanwhile, her friend, Andie, ends up pregnant without trying. After deciding that she can't become a mother herself, Andie offers to let Lizzie adopt the child. The film has not been rated. Jessie McCormack directs.
"White Reindeer" is a dark comedy from Zach Clark. Suzanne can't wait for Christmas to roll around. She loves celebrating her favorite holiday with her devoted husband. When a tragedy leaves Suzanne widowed, however, her world comes falling apart around her. The secrets uncovered in the rubble of her former life lead Suzanne to ditch her usual holiday traditions and opt for some much more unusual pastimes. The film is not rated.
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" sees Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson return to their roles as Katniss and Peeta, the heroes of the 74th Annual Hunger Games. Although they overcame huge obstacles, Katniss and Peeta are about to face their biggest challenges yet. The Capitol has something special planned for the 75th anniversary of the Hunger Games. The movie has a PG-13 rating for intense sequences of action and violence, thematic elements, frightening images, language, and a suggestive situation. Francis Lawrence directs.
"Frozen" is a family-friendly fairytale from Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck. Kristoff is an ice trader who's been having a hard time lately. The kingdom has fallen under a wintry spell. Kristoff's life becomes even more complicated when he meets Anna, a plucky young woman who seems determined to find whoever is responsible for the curse. The animated film has a PG rating for action and mild rude humor.
"Thor: The Dark World" stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor. After an ancient battle between the Dark Elves and the Asgardians, the defeated Dark Elves set dangerous plans into motion. Now, Thor must deal with the consequences. Dr. Jane Foster has become part of the Dark Elves' plot, and both her life and the fate of the universe are in danger. The film's PG-13 rating is due to suggestive content, as well as to intense sequences of sci-fi action and violence. Alan Taylor directs.
"The Best Man Holiday" is Malcolm D. Lee's sequel to "The Best Man" (1999). When Mia invites Harper and Robin to her holiday celebration, Harper is a little nervous about the encounter, thinking that his past with Mia might create some drama. Once the whole gang reunites, Harper realizes that there's plenty of drama, humor, rivalry, and tension to go around. The R rating is due to language, mature content, and brief nudity.
"Homefront" stars Jason Statham as a former DEA agent who has moved his young daughter to a small American town. After the two tangle with the unfriendly locals, the single father ends up embroiled in a war to protect his turf and keep his daughter safe. The locals won't give up easily. "Homefront" has an R rating for strong violence, drug content, language, and brief mature content.
