Josh Hutcherson says having Suzanne Collins involved in 'The Hunger Games' movie provided a ''safety blanket'' for the cast.

The 19-year-old actor plays Peeta Mellark in the adaptation of the first of Suzanne's novel trilogy about teenagers forced by their government to fight to the death live on TV for entertainment and he admitted having her co-write the screenplay made him relax about the pressure of making a good movie.

Speaking at the European Premiere of 'The Hunger Games' at London's O2 Arena on Wednesday, he said (14.03.12): ''Having Suzanne involved was like a safety blanket for us and for the fans. They knew it was in safe hands with her on board.

''Being true to the book and staying loyal to the fans was important but it was a challenge to stay true to the book and make it cinematic at the same time. I think we've managed it.''

Josh was immediately struck by his character, baker's son Peeta who falls for protagonist Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and says he is happy that other people seem to connect with him too.

He explained: ''I'm so proud of this movie. I loved Peeta from the beginning. He's very genuine, for me he's someone who stands up for what he believes in. People connect with him, I connected with him straight away. ''
