The Top Five Performances of the Talented Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence, born in 1990 on August 15, is currently one of America's most popular actresses. She started out with independent films and a role as a leading cast member of "The Bill Engvall Show" from 2007 to 2009. Her first major independent films were 2008's "The Burning Plain" and 2010's "Winter's Bone," both of which brought attention to her talent and resulted in nominations for Best Actress for the Golden Globe Award, the Academy Award, the Satellite Award, the Screen Actors Guild Award, and the Independent Spirit Award. By the age of twenty, she was one of the youngest actors in film history to be nominated for the coveted Academy Award for Best Actress. By the age of twenty-two, her performance in 2012's "Silver Linings Playbook" resulted in her becoming the youngest person in the world to be nominated for two Best Actress awards at the Academy Awards, and she was the second-youngest winner of the Best Actress award.

"Silver Linings Playbook"
While Jennifer Lawrence has been in many movies, "Silver Linings Playbook" certainly deserves a top spot in a list of her five best performances. Jennifer Lawrence portrays Tiffany Maxwell, a sex addict in recovery and a young widow who meets the main character, Pat Solitano, through Pat's close friend and her brother-in-law Ronnie. Tiffany and Pat develop an unusual friendship that quickly progresses into a will they/won't they romance. Tiffany lures Pat into being her partner at a dancing competition and in return helps him learn where he went wrong with his wife. As the film progresses, both dysfunctional characters are thwarted by their individual neuroses and shortcomings. Time will tell whether they can overcome them long enough to get together and make things work.

"The Hunger Games"
In this 2012 film, Lawrence takes on the role of the main character, Katniss Everdeen. Katniss is a young woman living in a dystopian society where humanity is relegated into districts according to their geographic origin and skill sets. Katniss comes from a poor rural district, where survival itself is a struggle. When her younger sister is chosen to take place in the Hunger Games, a ruthless competition that pits children against one another in a battle to the death for televised entertainment, Katniss volunteers to take her place and sets the story in motion. The film is based on the wildly popular young adult novel of the same name, and it marks Jennifer Lawrence's ascent to A-list stardom.

"X-Men: First Class"
"X-Men: First Class" is the long-awaited prequel to the popular "X-Men" movie franchise. Lawrence portrays a young Mystique, one of the most iconic villains in the "X-Men" universe. In this incarnation, Mystique is an innocent young friend of Charles Xavier's. The two meet when she is caught stealing food from his kitchen, and he realizes that she is a gifted mutant like him. The two strike up an instant affection for each other, and Mystique becomes one of Xavier's most trusted allies. As the film progresses, her decisions begin to shape her into the seductive and mysterious villain she is destined to become. This was one of Lawrence's first major action movie roles, and her performance was heralded by fans and critics alike.

"Winter's Bone"
In "Winter's Bone," Lawrence portrays a young girl named Ree who comes from the picturesque Ozark Mountain region. The film follows Ree on a journey to track down her deadbeat father and force him to leave behind a life of drug dealing and recklessness to take care of his familial responsibilities. Ree's attempts to keep her family from faltering at such a young age are admirable, and Lawrence portrays the character's spirit and dignity flawlessly, making this one of her most notable dramatic roles yet.

"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire"
The sequel to "The Hunger Games" just may be Jennifer Lawrence's most highly anticipated film role yet. She will reprise her role as Katniss Everdeen in the second installment of this beloved movie franchise. The film is based on the second novel in the "Hunger Games" franchise, and both the book and the film have the same name. The second film takes a step back from the Hunger Games themselves to examine the complex and controversial nature of the political world that Katniss finds herself in the center of after thwarting the government's plans in the first film. Fans can look forward to Lawrence's role reprisal as one of the strongest and most beloved female characters in the history of young adult fiction.
