Jim Carrey takes on Mr. Popper's Penguins
Jim Carrey has signed on to star in 'Mr. Popper's Penguins'.
The 48-year-old actor star will play a leading role in the family comedy - an adaptation of the 1938 children's book by Richard and Florence Atwater.
Mark Water - who has previously worked on 'Mean Girls', 'Freaky Friday' and 'The Spiderwick Chronicles' - will direct the project, which has been updated for a modern audience by scriptwriter Jared Stern, Variety.com reports.
The film tells the story of a high powered businessman who finds himself suddenly in the custody of six penguins, causing problems for his luxury lifestyle.
However, he eventually finds himself attached to the penguins, causing him to learn lessons about life, love and family.
Comedy actor Carrey's career has been quiet in the last few years, having only appeared in the role of Scrooge in 'A Christmas Carol' in 2009 and 'I Love You Phillip Morris' with Ewen McGregor.
'Mr. Popper's Penguins' is due for release in 2012.
