Jim Sturgess likes working with children on movies.

The 30-year-old actor stars alongside Anne Hathaway in new movie 'One Day' - which views two friends who get together for a single day every year - and he admits scenes with child actresses Eden and Kayla Mengelgrein, who shared the role of his daughter Jasmine in the film, were enjoyable despite the normal adult mantra never to work with children or animals.

He said: "I actually enjoyed the scenes with the young girls who played Jasmin.

"I really enjoyed pretending to have a daughter, and I like working with young people and trying to make it believable for them. You have to work a bit harder when you're with kids."

However, the British star admits the film was not always so fun to make as he had to strike a balance between how his character Dexter is in the original book by David Nicholls hand how he is on the big-screen.

He told the Huffington Post: "It was hard. In the book you really get to spend a lot more time with him and he becomes a bit more excusable -- for the film you have to try to find a real fine balance, knowing when to push for more of the arrogant side and knowing when to expose the more vulnerable side."
