Joaquin Phoenix in 'final talks' for "Doctor Strange"
Joaquin Phoenix is reportedly in final talks to play Doctor Strange in a new Marvel movie.
The Academy Award nominated actor is rumoured to be the top choice for the superhero role in the latest Marvel blockbuster, despite reports that he had been over-looked in favour of Jack Huston.
According to Collider.com, a deal between Joaquin and Marvel for 'Doctor Strange' is ''currently being finalised'' after several months of negotiations.
The site also speculates that the amount of time it has taken for the 39-year-old actor to sign a contract could indicate Joaquin's fears that his commitment to Marvel could affect his availability for other film projects, but their source has insisted that: ''His contract is essentially at the 1 yard line, about to pass into the endzone.''
'Doctor Strange' is scheduled to hit cinemas on July 8, 2016, after Marvel announced that 'Deliver Us From Evil' director Scott Derrickson was on-board to direct the superhero flick.
The studio will be busy over the next couple of years, with 'Ant-Man' starring Paul Rudd due to be released in July 2015, which will be followed by the 'Captain America 3' with Chris Evans in May 2016.
