Tobey Maguire joins Z for Zachariah
A big screen adaptation of the hit Broadway jukebox musical that celebrates the '80s heyday of rock n' roll. Directed by Adam Shankman, the movie follows waitress Sherrie Christian (Julianne Hough) and busboy Drew Boley (Diego Boneta) who fall in love during the glam metal era of the 1980s. Rounding out the ensemble cast list are actors Tom Cruise (who plays rock star Stacee Jaxx), Paul Giamatti, Russell Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alec Baldwin & Malin Akerman.
Tobey Maguire will star as a rugged scientist in forthcoming movie 'Z for Zachariah'.
The 37-year-old actor - who is best known for his role as the titular character in the 'Spider-Man' trilogy from 2002 to 2007 - will also produce the sci-fi movie, which sees 'Compliance' helmer Craig Zobel in the director's chair.
Tobey - who recently co-produced musical comedy movie 'Rock of Ages' - will portray a scientist with a dark past who is nursed back to health after he is infected by a contaminated stream following nuclear war.
But the main focus of the movie - which is based a novel of the same name by Robert C. O'Brien - is on 16-year-old Ann Burden, who believes she is the only survivor of the devastating conflict and lives alone in the only valley with breathable air.
Tobey recently joined the cast of 'Labor Day', which will see him star alongside Kate Winslet, James Van Der Beek and Josh Brolin as the adult version of central character Henry, who will also narrate the story.
And the 'Seabiscuit' star can next be seen in Ang Lee's adventure movie 'Life of Pi' later this year and then in Baz Luhrmann's 'The Great Gatsby', which was initially expected to be released on Christmas Day this year (25.12.12) before being pushed back until the summer of 2013.
