Tom Cruise's 'incredible' musical voice
A big screen adaptation of the hit Broadway jukebox musical that celebrates the '80s heyday of rock n' roll. Directed by Adam Shankman, the movie follows waitress Sherrie Christian (Julianne Hough) and busboy Drew Boley (Diego Boneta) who fall in love during the glam metal era of the 1980s. Rounding out the ensemble cast list are actors Tom Cruise (who plays rock star Stacee Jaxx), Paul Giamatti, Russell Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alec Baldwin & Malin Akerman.
The 'Mission: Impossible' actor plays the role of rocker Stacee Jaxx in the musical - alongside Russell Brand and Alec Baldwin - and his co-star Julianne Hough admits he was note-perfect on the set.
She told MTV News: ''Oh he's fantastic. If I remember correctly I hear his grandparents or something were opera singers. So he has this tone and this pitch that is incredible.''
However it was not entirely easy for the legendary Hollywood star and he had to keep at it with lessons from a vocal coach.
She added: ''Anybody who knows Tom knows that he literally is the most hardworking and intense and committed actor out there.
''He literally would do lessons for hours trying to perfect it and perfect it and he really did. He was fantastic.''
It is not only Tom who Julianne - whose brother is 'Dancing with the Stars' professional Derek Hough - loved singing with; Mary J. Blige was also a particular highlight.
She added: ''I sing a lot with Mary J. Blige and I mean, anything I sing with her, I'm like, dying. She's incredible.''
