'Jupiter Ascending' has been pushed back to 2015.

The eagerly awaited sci-fi flick - directed by 'The Matrix' helmers Andy and Lana Wachowski - has abruptly been moved from its release date next month to February next year.

Film studio Warner Bros. claims the film needs more time to put the finishing touches on extensive visual effects.

Domestic distribution chief Dan Fellman told Variety: ''With the July release date, they were just not going to make it on time. A lot of the issue for us was getting it ready for the international release, since the foreign territories need additional time.''

'Jupiter Ascending' stars Mila Kunis - who is pregnant with her first child with fiancé Ashton Kutcher - as a house cleaner who discovers she is a princess and embarks on a whirlwind journey with an elf-eared alien warrior (Channing Tatum), who is tasked to protect her.

The film also stars Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth and 'Game of Thrones' actor Sean Bean.

It's thought the blockbuster cost around $150 million to make.

The film will now open on February 6, 2015, and will battle Johnny Depp's 'Mortdecai' at the box office.
