Action teacher Sylvester Stallone
Jason Statham is Sylvester Stallone's protege.
'Rocky' star Sylvester revealed that he sees himself as a father figure to the 37-year-old British actor and thinks Jason could be the heir to his action hero throne.
Speaking about the paternal angle in the pair's new movie 'The Expendables', 64-year-old Sylvester explained he was making a point that it was time for him to move on and Jason to take over.
He told BANG Showbiz: "It was very intentional. You have to be age appropriate and he would be the protege. He's like that fellow who I confide in who will eventually take over."
Sylvester - who has two sons from his first marriage to Sasha Czack and three daughters with his wife Jennifer Flavin- revealed that he treats action star Jason just like a son.
He said: "I tease him about his love life and taking things too seriously, stuff like what a father would do. But yeah the paternal angle in the movie is not by accident.
And Jason admitted that getting to know Sylvester - who he has idolised as a young boy - was a dream come true.
He said: "I had watched his films for years, that's why I get excited when I get to do films like this."
He continued: "It's a situation where you get to know the real man behind the camera. It's not the filmmaker anymore it's a regular guy. To me that was the best thing about working with Sly, getting to know him as a person and there's no substitute for that."
Sylvester joked about their age gap saying: "Knowing that I am old enough to be his father, it's really comforting."
'The Expendables' is released worldwide throughout August.
