Owen Wilson to star in The Coup
Owen Wilson is set to star in action drama 'The Coup'.
The 'Wedding Crashers' star will take on the role of the patriarch in the movie which tells the story of an American family who move to South-east Asia and finds themselves embroiled in a violent coup after rebels mercilessly attack their new home city.
The film - which will be directed by John Erick Dowdle from a script he co-wrote with his brother Drew Dowdle - has been compared to Liam Neeson's thriller 'Taken' and Crime Scene Pictures who are making the film have called Owen's casting ''inspired.''
Crime Scene's Pictures' Adam Ripp and Rob Paris told Deadline: ''We love the relentless energy of the Dowdle Brothers' script - and their vision for dropping Owen in the midst of the chaos is truly inspired.''
Producer Steve Alexander added: ''When I first read the Dowdles' screenplay, I was immediately taken with how strongly it taps into that primal fear which any parent can relate to, when it comes to the safety and protection of their family.''
This will be comedic actor Owen's first foray into action movies since 2001's 'Behind Enemy Lines'.
Filming will begin in Southeast Asia in October.
