List of Halloween Movies: Best of All Time

Published on November 1, 2009 by Admin/Neil   ·   No Comments

Halloween movieDeveloping a list of Halloween movies can be an exhaustive undertaking given that the number of films related to the holiday grows every year as new ones are introduced (Read the Trick ‘r Treat DVD Review). Many of the best horror movies and ghost movies ever made do have a Halloween theme. This collection is intended to help people looking for a good haunt this Halloween explore options.

Rather than ranking the best Halloween movies, this is a list of Halloween films with several that have a theme centered on the holiday or that incorporate Halloween into a good movie. The list includes those movies that do have a heavy emphasis on Halloween or related traditions or rituals, with information provided on the top Halloween movies, and other titles added for you to explore.

While the Halloween movies starring Jamie Lee Curtis may be among the classic horror films of all time, in order to keep the list a reasonable length, it is centered on the best of all the Halloween movies since 2000. Besides, everyone is familiar with all the “Halloween movies”.

It is not enough just to have movies about Halloween, the Halloween films must also have entertainment value. This probably means it is either scary, eerie, dramatic, action-packed, and potentially humorous.

List of Best Halloween Movies (Since 2000)

Rob Zombie’s Halloween II (2009)
– Michael Myers returns to haunt Haddonfield, Illinois, much to the dismay of his sister Laurie Strode.

Trick ‘r Treat (2008) - This very unique four-in-one Halloween film anthology just released on DVD. It combines four films into one with a frightening character Sam appearing in all of the stories.

Rob Zombie’s Halloween (2007) – The legendary character from the original “Halloween movies” Michael Myers has escaped from his mental institution and is ready to wreak havoc in a way that only the mind of Rob Zombie can come up with.

Halloween: 25 Years of Terror (2006)
- This is among the best documentary films to ever explore the history of movies about Halloween as it chronicles the top films of the last 25 years.

Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
– Carrie White is a lonely and painfully shy teenage girl with telekinetic powers who is slowly pushed to the edge of insanity by frequent bullying from both classmates at her school, and her own religious, but abusive, mother.

Carrie (2002) – It wasn’t quite as good as the classic original (but that was made well before 2000), but this redo of the story of Carrie White, a lonely and painfully shy teenage girl with telekinetic powers who is slowly pushed to the edge of insanity by frequent bullying from both classmates at her school, and her own religious, but abusive, mother, is still horrifying.

Happy Halloween (2001) – One of the creepier Halloween movies, this one is about four young people who drive with their car through a car wash that turns into a ghost train and the contours between reality and fantasy start to blur on Halloween Night.
