The level of violence in film has grown significantly over the course of time. While some of the best action movies and best war movies have always contained some amounts of violence, the scale of intensity and graphic nature has heightened with advanced video technology. This list of violent movies highlights some of the most violent films over the course of the current year as reviewed on Movie Room Reviews.

To be included in this list of violent movies, the films must have been Rated R are Unrated, with a notation for violence included in the rating. Some of the most violent movies are ones that are viewed as great films. Others are simply gory slasher thriller movies that use excessive violence as a selling point over a quality plot and movie making.
