Lost Treasure of the Maya DVDLost Treasure of the Maya is a December 8th DVD release from MTI Studios.  Directed by David Murphy, the action-adventure movie is set in the exotic terrain of the Yucatan Peninsula, and tells the story of a group of tomb-raiders that steal precious Mayan artifacts and come up against evil forces greater than they ever anticipated. The film stars Michael Madsen (Kill Bill), Protasio (Border Lost), Heather Storm (Epic Movie), Richard Tyson (Kindergarten Cop), Declan Joyce (Scorched) and Keith David (Crash).

Three American archaeologists are attempting to recover a sacred Mayan mask.  After they go missing, Alexis (Heather Storm) hops a flight to the Yucatan to try to find her sister.  Little does she know what she is up against as the tomb-raiders, lead by ruthless businessman Lester (Michael Madsen), decide they don’t like her snooping around their lost treasure.

Alexis finds good fortune in Nico (Co-Writer/Producer/Actor Protasio), a seemingly lazy drunken local who has been hiding out on the island for five years.  Alexis is initially put off by Nico’s rude and unhelpful attidue.  However, after Alexis forces the issues and puts herself at risk, Nico’s heroic persona, which is left over from years in the military, come forth.

As Nico and Alexis try to track her sister, Lester and his men are attempting to find their way to the lost Mayan mask.  Their paths are pointing them in the same direction, potentially leading to a climactic showdown.

Lost Treasure of the Maya is a nice action-adventure movie somewhat in the mold of the Indiana Jones realm.  Nico is a character not unlike Indiana Jones in his personality.  He can appear to be a bit egotistical and unaffected at first.  However, his real character comes out in the toughest times when heroic measures are needed.

Prosario shows off his talent as both a producer of the movie and its lead actor.  He delivers a captivating and charasmatic performance.  He and Heather Storm work well together and the story nicely builds their chemistry.  Michael Madsen is the classic villain serves his purpose well.

Certainly not one of the best action movies of all time, Lost Treasure of the Maya is an interesting adventure story that does keep the viewer engaged until the end.  The setting is nice and the cinematography and direction are well-done.  It is an all-around nice film production.
