Robert Rodriguez tries to make every movie like his debut.

The 'Machete' director realised that working within strict time and budget constraints can be a creative way of making a film, and helps him keep some of the excitement and buzz debut directors get.

Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival, he exclusively told BANG Showbiz: ''When I ask directors - big directors - what their first movie was, they get all excited and start talking about their first film, when they didn't have enough time or enough money and they talk about it and you can tell it's not like that anymore, so I've always strived to keep it like that, where every movie is like our first movie, where we don't have enough time, or enough money and you have to use cleverness and technology to bridge that gap.''

Robert is making the second of his 'Machete' films this summer, 'Machete Kills', and he is planning on working to a particularly tight schedule, going straight on to shoot 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For' aftewards, which has surprised many of the crew.

He explained: ''We're doing another 'Machete' and we're going to shoot it back to back with 'Sin City' and people can't understand it, 'We're doing it in 30 days? How are we going to so it in 30 days?' We are just going to do it, always putting the pressure on ourselves.

''Because one, we don't have the money but we want it to look like a huge movie, so it's 'Mariachi' all over again, just at a different level.

''But it's with the same mindset, which is, 'I have no idea how we're gonna pull this off, but at the end of the day we're going to have to be done.' We're going to have to be resourceful and creative, and that's the most fun you're ever going to have.''

Robert has recently launched a new VISIONary Young Directors Contest to find a new director with technology partner AMD.

Aspiring film makers can submit a short film, and a panel of judges including representatives from AMD and the filmmaking industry will choose one winner based on originality, creativity and the ability to quickly capture attention.

The winner will have the chance to win a trip to Austin City Limits October 12-14, 2012 to meet Robert in person, as well as cutting-edge film editing technology to jump start their movie making careers. To enter and for full contest rules, visit the AMD competition page at http://amd.pgtb.me/cX1T
