Richard E. Grant 'leapt' at chance to work with Streep
Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren and Mary-Louise Parker star in the 2010 action-comedy that is "Red". After he's threatened by a high-tech assassin, former black-ops agent Frank Moses (Willis) reassembles his old crew to go after their longtime assailants. The movie's title (RED) stands for "Retired Extremely Dangerous".
Richard E. Grant "leapt at the opportunity" to work with Meryl Streep.
The Swaziland born actor recently filmed the Margaret Thatcher biopic 'The Iron Lady' with the Oscar winner and the decision to take part was easy for him because he admires both Meryl and Margaret.
He exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "Meryl Streep is the best of the best of the best, so I leapt at the opportunity to be in a film with her.
"I emigrated from Africa to England in 1982 just as the Falklands War began so the Thatcher's Prime Ministership was inescapable and it has been interesting to act in a film dealing with her years in power."
While Richard admires Meryl, he cites Steve Martin as his best friend in Hollywood and says the pair keep in regular contact since working on 'LA Story' together.
He said: "I met Steve Martin at a screening of 'How To Get Ahead In Advertising' in London at the end of the 80's and he casually said 'we gotta work together'. Unexpectedly and true to his word, which now that I know him, he always is, he offered me a role in 'LA Story' which he wrote and starred in.
"He is the one Hollywood friend I made who has remained the same and with whom I have kept in regular contact, initially via fax and subsequently email. Steve suggested that I take my writing seriously and encouraged me to get published and to write a script. All of which I subsequently did. His belief and encouragement have proved invaluable and I am indebted to him."
