J. J. Abrams to produce Boilerplate

July 30th, 2010

J. J. Abrams is making a movie about a Victorian robot.

The 'Star Trek' filmmaker is to produce 'Boilerplate: History's Mechanical Marvel' - which will be based on a graphic novel picture book hybrid by Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett - through his Bad Robot production company for Paramount Pictures.

The film will tell the story about the world's first robot and its adventures in the late 19th and early 20th century, which include fighting alongside Theodore Roosevelt and Lawrence of Arabia, getting involved in the silent movie business and journeying to the South Pole, before disappearing on the battlefields of World War I.

Deborah Newmyer of Outlaw Production will also serve as a producer on the project, the Hollywood Reporter says.

No casting or other production information for the film have been given.

Bad Robot's next production ready for release is the Harrison Ford and Rachel McAdams-starring 'Morning Glory', while they also have an untitled movie about a diamond heist and 'Mystery on Fifth Avenue' in development.
