Moscow Chill is a riveting new action-thriller movie that releases on DVD April 21st (Changed from March 24th), from leading Miami-based independent home entertainment studio, MTI Home Video. Now celebrating their 25th anniversary, MTI independently releases over 40 films each year in conjunction with their studio partners. Moscow Chill is Directed and co-written by Chris Solimine and Produced and co-written by Andrei Konchalovsky, an icon of Russian Cinema.
In the film, a loner American computer hacker Ray Perso (Norman Reedus of American Gangster) attempts to use his intellect and talent to spread cash among the masses. His desire is to play the role of a modern day Robin Hood. His intention to lay low is lost when an ATM plot begins spraying cash in the streets and draws attention to Perso. He is arrested and throw into a rehab facility.
After learning of Ray’s unique talents, an imprisoned Russian gangster with big ties to important officals has a couple of his men free Ray, and bring him to Russia. Ray is confused at first, then glad to be freed from the confines of rehab. He is quickly put in front of important leaders in the Russian underground who want him to use his computer talents to move $40 million. Ray does not realize that the source of the funds may become irritated at some point.
Ray is quickly assimilated into the Russian culture and befriends some of his new colleagues. He is challenged, though, by the moral issues that arise when he is forced to use his gifts to help aid the corrupt and not for better purposes. His partners come from a philosophy of doing whatever it takes to get the job done. This tension is the only thing that gets in the way from Ray finding peace with his new romantic interest.
Moscow Chill is a captivating and entertaining movie. Reedus is a great fit for his role as an assuming, highly intelligent man, who would prefer to operate behind-the-scenes. The story offers some nice twists and turns that keeps the audience involved. It is fast-paced with the trials and tribulations necessary to make Ray’s story compelling. In fact, the only potential knock against Moscow Chill might be that it seems to have reached its conclusion at a couple different points, yet it keeps going. Still, the movie is interesting, entertaining, and does eventually come to a nice conclusion.
***UPDATE (3/24): Due to a production run issue, the release date of the Moscow Chill has been pushed back to April 21st, instead of the original March 24th release date!
