When On-Screen Romances Become Real
When On-Screen Romances Become Real
-- For moviegoers who have ever thought the romance appeared entirely too genuine on-screen, there could be a good reason for that. Although not all on-screen couples end up pursuing a romance off screen, there have certainly been several well-known actors and actresses who have fallen for Cupid's arrow during and after filming of projects.
Perhaps the most well-known on-screen and off-screen romance is that of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Dubbed Brangelina, the couple reputedly began their romance during the filming of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" in 2005. The A-list actors initially denied having an affair. At the time, Pitt was still married to Jenifer Aniston, but Jolie later admitted they did fall in love while on the set of the film. It was not until early 2006 that the couple made an official comment on their relationship, when Jolie announced she was pregnant with their first biological child. The couple now has three adopted and three biological children. They have recently announced their engagement.
For fans of the "Twilight" movie franchise, the chemistry between Bella and Edward fairly jumped off the screen. It did not come as much of a surprise when rumors began to circulate that costars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson were a couple not only on screen but also off screen. For her part, Stewart has tended to avoid commenting on the rumors of her romantic relationship with Pattinson. However, she has recently stated that even though the relationship is fairly obvious, she prefers to keep certain aspects of her personal life private.
Among the latest romance to develop while on set appears to be between the stars of "The Amazing Spider-Man" Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Stone recently ended a relationship with Kieran Culkin. The couple has not yet made their relationship official but did appear together at the MTV Movie Awards shortly after Garfield broke off a long-term relationship with Shannon Woodward.
When Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck met on the set of "Pearl Harbor," they did not immediately begin dating. In fact, it was not until 2004, when they appeared in "The Daredevil," that the couple began a relationship. Affleck reportedly rescued Garner during a stunt accident. Garner later quipped she had her own personal superhero, referring to the film's storyline. Once their relationship became public, the couple was dubbed Bennifer 2, referencing the fact that Affleck had previously dated Jenifer Lopez. Their romance ended after the couple broke off their engagement. Affleck and Garner married in 2005 and now have three children together.
Will Smith, who stars once again in the upcoming "Men in Black 3," met his wife, Jada Pinket Smith, during filming of his 1990s television show "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air." The couple later appeared together in a film detailing the life of world-famous boxer Muhammad Ali. The Smiths have now been married 13 years and have two children together.
In the world of Hollywood romances, where marriages do not typically last, the love affair between Warren Beatty and Annette Benning is somewhat extraordinary. The couple originally met during the filming of "Bugsy" in 1991. They married the following year. Two years later, they appeared in one of the most iconic romantic films of all time, "Love Affair." The couple has four children.
Benning and Beatty is not the only couple to begin a romance while on set and stay together. Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn first met while filming a movie in 1968, but romance did not immediately ensue. When they began filming "Swing Shift" in 1983, the sparks began to really fly. They later appeared in "Overboard," a film about the unlikely love story between a lowly carpenter and a snobby socialite. Although the couple has never married, they remain one of the most successful couples in Hollywood, as they have been together for nearly three decades. Goldie has two children from prior relationships, Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson, and Kurt has one child from a previous relationship. The couple has one child together, Wyatt Russell.
Although they may be young, real-life couple Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth proved that real love can begin on the set of a movie when they recently announced their engagement. The couple met in 2009 during the filming of "The Last Song." Cyrus has stated that Hemsworth won her over when he performed one simple act: opening the door for her during their initial meeting regarding the film project. Cyrus was 16 at the time and had just ended a relationship. The young couple did briefly end their relationship but were back together once again just one month later. Cyrus and "The Hunger Games" star Hemsworth have not yet announced a date for their wedding.
