Films for the Dog Days of Summer

-- August typically winds down the summer movie season. Many blockbusters are released in June and July, but August is also a month for highly anticipated films. Whether you love action films, comedy films or children's movies, there are a number of worthwhile movies being released in theaters this August.

"Total Recall"

Based on the 1990 action film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, "Total Recall" has received heavy promotion for the past few months. The 2012 version of the film is directed by Len Wiseman and stars Colin Farrell, Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale. The film takes place in the year 2084 and follows many of the same plot points as the 1990 version. However, certain parts of the original version of the film were omitted from the current film, such as the trip to Mars. "Total Recall" will be released in theaters on August 3, 2012.

"Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days"

"Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days" is the third film in the popular "Wimpy Kid" film series. In this movie, Greg, the main character, finds himself working at a country club for the summer. During his time here, he ends up getting into several humorous situations. Both adults and children have been anticipating the return of Greg and the "Wimpy Kid" series since the success of the last film. The film is directed by David Bowers and stars Devon Bostick, Steve Zahn and Rachael Harris. "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days" will be released in theaters on August 3, 2012.

In the reboot, actor Jeremy Renner plays Aaron Cross, the main character of the film. The events that took place in the three previous films in the franchise play a large role in what happens in the new film.
"The Bourne Legacy" is directed by Tony Gilroy and stars Jeremy Renner, Edward Norton and Rachel Weisz. The film will be released in theaters on August 10, 2012.

"The Campaign"

With election season right around the corner, audience members can expect plenty of political humor in the coming months. "The Campaign" is one of the first films of the year to take on the dog-eat-dog world of politics. The film stars Zach Galifianakas and Will Ferrell as rival candidates who are fighting over a small North Carolina district. While the film features political undertones, actors Galifianakas and Ferrell are sure to bring plenty of laughs. The film is directed by Jay Roach and stars Jason Sudeikis and Dylan McDermott. "The Campaign" will be released in theaters on August 10, 2012.

"The Odd Life of Timothy Green"
