Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is celebrating the 70th anniversary of one of its most timeless and treasured animated classic, Pinocchio. The Pinocchio: 70th Anniversary Platinum Edition releases on March 10th in a special combination pack that includes the high definition Blu-ray disc and the special edition DVD.
The legendary Pinocchio is the genius craftsmanship of woodworker Gipetto. With Jimmy Cricket as his guide, Pinocchio remarkable transforms from a wooden puppet into a magical and charismatic little boy. The essence of this classic story is that Pinocchio is a little boy who must learn the natural virtues of humanity including loyalty, bravery, and honesty.
Of course, one of the lasting effects of the story of Pinocchio is his experience in learning that lying does not pay off. He discovers the moral necessity of honesty when his nose instantly grows longer every time he tells a lie. This factor of his character has become a popular cultural reference to describe present day “storyteller”. When a young boy tells a lie, he might be told that his nose is going to grow longer like Pinocchio’s.
Pinocchio is a brilliant animated story. The visual effects are amazing, and are heightened by the advanced digital mastering techniques available with high definition Blu-ray. Young boys will appreciate the message of this film more because of the charismatic nature of the main player. The story is full of adventure and wonder but still manages to present a strong moral lesson. Parents are always looking for a good opportunity to teach these values to their young ones and what better way than the hi-tech 70th Anniversary Platinum Edition of Pinocchio. One note of caution – if you have young ones that are especially sensitive, the scenes in which Gipetto gets stuck in the belly of a whale have been known to frighten some.
