Elizabeth Banks will direct the 'Pitch Perfect' sequel.

The 'Hunger Games' actress is set to make her directorial debut in the follow-up to 2012's hit musical comedy, starring Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson.

Banks co-starred and produced the original movie, but will now be stepping behind the camera for the very first time, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Donna Langley, Universal Pictures' chairman, said: ''Elizabeth originated the idea for 'Pitch Perfect' and was instrumental in making the first film such a huge success. She brings an enormous amount of energy and experience to everything she works on and we're thrilled that she is making her feature directorial debut on 'Pitch Perfect 2'.''

The original film focused on a college freshman (Kendrick) who reluctantly leads an a cappella group called the Bellas to the finals.

It was a surprise hit and over-performed in the box office, grossing over $115 million worldwide.

The soundtrack also proved popular, going platinum with over 1 million copies sold and single 'Cups' selling almost 3 million units.

Kendrick and Wilson are expected to return, while Kay Cannon, who adapted the first film from Mickey Rapkin's original book, is scripting the sequel.
