When most people have beans they get some protein with a lot of you know what! But for Jack (Nicholas Hoult) his adventure is a lot more than a room clearing odor. In the film Jack trades his horse for a bag of magic beans and he ends up accidently losing one during a storm which triggers a bean stalk to shoot miles into the air. The stalk unknowingly takes princess Isabelle (Eleanor Tomlinson) into the long forgotten world of the giants, which could ultimately lead to her death. King Brahmwell (Ian McShane) sends up his best men including Elmont (Ewan McGregor) his trusted advisor, and future son-in-law Roderick (Stanley Tucci), and Jack to retrieve his daughter from the giants and their evil leader General Fallon (Bill Nighy). Little do they all know that the scary tales of giants they heard as kids, are actually true.
I really enjoyed this film. It’s not the best adventure movie I saw this year, but it has all the qualities of a fun family film. It has violence but nothing over the top for today’s action films. Director Bryan Singer did a good job building the story up before introducing us to the giants, and since I expected a lot of computer graphics and animation, it didn’t seem that overdone to me. All in all, it’s a great family movie and you should rent it when you get the chance.
