Quick Hit Movie Review: “World War Z”

If you take anxiety medication, then you better double your dose before seeing the new Marc Forster directed film “World War Z”. This film is nonstop action from start to finish and it is overwhelming to the senses. It all begins in Philadelphia with Gerry Lane (Brad Pitt), his wife Karin Lane (Mireille Enos), and their children who are going about their daily life. All of the sudden, the city is under attack by a strange virus that causes people to turn into zombies and cause terror and destruction throughout the world. Gerry and his family get sparred in exchange for Gerry tracking down the origin of the virus.
Most zombie movies give us a vision of zombies that are very dangerous but very slow, not “World War Z”. These zombies are nuts and are crazy fast with animal like strength and Gerry must try to find a cure for this virus before it infects and destroys the entire planet. I have never been so terrified by zombies before this film.
Not only were the zombies scary but what was really horrifying was the intense eerie realism. Not joking, you actually consider this as possibly happening while you are watching the film. Brad Pitt gives us a great performance, even though he is sporting a Jennifer Aniston circa 1992 haircut. We also get to see a scene with actor David Morse, whom which I spoke with earlier this year about the film. The computer graphics are a little overwhelming and you obviously can tell they are there, but who cares. One aspect of the film I really enjoyed was the fact that we really don’t know what was going to happen and how it was going to happen. I know that sounds stupid, but most movies like this have a defined mission and a predictable outcome; we just don’t get that with “World War Z”. You have no idea the adventure you are about to be a part of. This is a fantastic terrifying story that thriller, and zombie, enthusiasts will enjoy.
