Quick Hits Movie Review: “Pain and Gain”

The latest blockbuster by director Michael Bay proved to be exactly what I thought it was going to be, overpriced and underpowered. This movie was just plain bad and I couldn’t wait for it to be over with.
The story is apparently based on a true story that happened to Daniel Lugo (Mark Wahlberg), Paul Doyle (Dwayne Johnson), and Adrian Doorbal (Anthony Mackie) who are three bodybuilders that kidnap and torture Victor Kershaw (Tony Shalhoub) for possession of his money and assets. The three end up in a very unrealistic situation that for me made the movie unbearable to watch. I find it hard to believe that Hollywood didn’t change this story around to make it more interesting for the audience. The flim wasn’t interesting at all and neither were any of the characters. Don’t get me wrong because I actually thought the actors did a great job, it’s just the characters they played were annoying. I honestly don’t want to watch a bunch of meatheads hurting people and pumping iron. You end up not caring about any character in this film, which is a little bizarre.
Even if this film is completely historically accurate, which I doubt, I really didn’t need to spend two hours hearing about it. Maybe it would have been a nice hour crime TV show, but as a movie it was just boring and annoying.
Theater vs. Home Release: Neither
