Quick Hits Movie Review: “Now You See Me”

The latest dazzling display from director Louis Leterrier (The Transporter, The Incredible Hulk) is a little over the top, to say the least. “Now You See Me” is a about four magicians, J. Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg), Merritt McKinney (Woody Harrelson), Henley Reeves (Isla Fisher), and Jack Wilder (Dave Franco), each with their own special ability. One day they all receive a card from an anonymous person who leads them to perform shows as The Four Horsemen. They quickly dazzle the crowd by... well you will have to see the movie to figure that out. Throughout the film you will try to figure out who is behind their devious scams. Is it the benefactor Arthur Tressler (Michael Caine)? Is it the jealous ex-magician Thaddeus Bradley (Morgan Freeman)? Or the beautiful Alma Dray (Mélanie Laurent) who happens to show up right when the case starts to help detective Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo)?
“Now You See Me” is a fun film with its twists and turns and flashing lights. To me, the film was a little too ridiculous with some questions of doubt, but it was entertaining and that’s what matters. The acting was great and Harrelson has been making me laugh ever since “King Pin”. I give this movie three stars and suggest you see it.
