Robert de Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer have a ''rare'' working chemistry.

The pair team up on-screen for a third time in 'The Family', and Michelle says she always loves working with the Hollywood legend, because they have the same values.

She told French television channel TF1: ''It's funny because for the two films that we have in common [before this], the only moments when we could be together was during the premieres on the red carpet. Without really knowing Robert, I felt there was something between us.

''It went deeper than formalities like 'I'm pleased to meet you, I love your work'. I think we felt at ease together, we have the same approach to our jobs, the same ethics. Even on a personal level we have things in common: we've both been married for a long time, family is important to us. To have this level of comfort with a co-star is really rare.''

The pair have previously appeared in 'Stardust' (2007) and 'New Year's Eve' (2011), but first met in 1980 when Michelle auditioned for a role alongside Robert in boxing movie 'Raging Bull'.

She said: ''That was when I very first met [him]. It was my very first interview ever ... never thinking I would get the part, which of course I didn't. I had always dreamed of working with him, and so I was just very excited.''
