Comedy fan Jake Gyllenhaal
This dramedy has a star-studded female cast that includes Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Eva Mendes, Debra Messing, Jada Pinkett Smith, Carrie Fisher, Cloris Leachman, Debi Mazar, Bette Midler and Candice Bergen. It's an update of the 1939 film of the same name which was based on the play by Clare Booth Luce. Written and directed by Diane English, 2008's "The Women" centers on what happens to four friends (Ryan, Bening, Messing and Smith) after one of their husbands gets involved in an affair with Mendes' character.
Jake Gyllenhaal prefers making comedies to any other genre.
The 29-year-old actor admits he is more comfortable trying to make people laugh but says one of his most enjoyable filmmaking experiences was on thriller 'Zodiac' with Robert Downey Jr.
He said: "Where am I most at ease? I think comedy.
"That's why I loved working with Robert Downey Jr. He and I had this similar kind of working. His energy is a bit more frenetic than but in terms of work, we meshed."
The 'Brokeback Mountain' star also spoke of his admiration for sister Maggie Gyllenhaal, admitting he thinks his pride in her acting career is one of the reasons why he is happy for his female co-stars to take the spotlight ahead of him.
He added to the December issue of Britain's Esquire magazine: "I admire her and continue to admire her. That might play into the reason I don't have much of a problem letting the women I've worked with shine. I love women."
Jake can next be seen starring opposite Anne Hathaway in 'Love and Other Drugs' and admits he was astonished by how many scenes he had to strip in.
He joked: "I was naked a lot in the movie. I was naked in more of it than was even in the final cut. A director's cut? I don't even know how that would be rated."
